So, I have 3 guinea pigs, 2 ladies and a castrated guy. This works very well, they are very social'herd' animals (insert long excures about guinea behaviour and harem structure and how early castrated males and late castrated males have different roles in their social structure, and the ladies... er, well, if you are interested, there are very good pages about that ;)
Anyway, my guy has been sickly for several years, I won't get into his health history, it'll rival anyone's elderly uncle's, and that week... he had reached his limit.
Thus far he always still 'wanted to live', was always cheerful and ate, even if eating was difficult and caused him pain.
But that Friday... he didn't any more. He also developed a suppurative discharge from his nose and... I couldn't leave my mother with a dying guinea. So I euthanised him and buried him in the back yard.
*sigh*
