So true. Another thing I check if I don't have personal experience of the area is the typical weather conditions at the time of year.
I've been totally thrown out of a good story (or film or TV programme) by references to London that are completely inaccurate. For example: buying a coffee in Tower Hill, and then taking the first mouthful outside Big Ben... which is an hour's walk away.
The best (worst?) one is probably a Fast & Furious film (no idea which one) that my husband was watching that was showing a car chase which drove past the highly distinctive Cheesegrater and Lloyd's buildings in London, then sped around a corner and raced across George Square in the centre of Glasgow! A hell of a car chase that lasted for over six hours and 400 miles obviously! 🤣🤣 I get that the streets of London might not be the best place to film the chase, but then don't film it going past two well-known landmarks that are basically in different countries.
