I was abducted by Metalheads.
It was stellar display of how the grapevine works: On Thursday I talked on the phone to one of my friends at home, telling him about my lack of heating and that I would come home for the weekend. He talked to some other friends of ours the next day at their pen-and-paper roleplaying session, and one of them said: “Wait, we are going to this concert tomorrow, Kris likes the bands, let’s take her!” and called another friend who dragged me out of my parents house at noon on Saturday, and another who organised a ticket for me.
Friends, gotta love them.
So, I went to the Winterfire Festival yesterday.
Dark Tranquility
Unleashed
Ensiferum
Shinig
Chrome Division
Moonsorrow
Endstille
Menhir
Iuramentum
Good bands! (Exept Shining) Sadly my favorites Dark Tranquility (best Album of the last five years: Fiction) had an abbyssmal sound for the first half of their set... but it got better.
And after that we went to celebrate “Fasching” or “Karneval”. It’s not a big deal in the (very protestant) North where I live now, so I had pretty much forgotten it was this weekend, but... large street party in the city.
I ended up sleeping on the couch of a friend, and only when my mother called and asked where I was and when my train (my 17-year-old VW Transporter broke down on the way South. Again.) back North was leaving I realised that I had to run to the station RIGHT NOW. Luckily the train passed through a town not far from where my parents live, so my mother could hand my bag and ticket through the window...
*grins* I have not had such a chaotic but fun weekend in a long time...
But the rest of the day was spend on trains, running after trains and waiting for trains. What is usually 4hour drive turned into a 9hour odysse. Public transportaion... not working.
And now a bit of backstory about my lack of heating:
I live in the two upstairs rooms in this house.
Small, but affordable.
So, the old lady who lived downstairs died last summer. I sort of expected to be asked to move out by the heirs then, but they said I could stay.
Then in December I quit my job, but (stupidly) agreed to not only stay the usual 3 months contingency time, but an extra month. To April 30th. I told the woman managing the house and rent that I would move out on April 30th. No problem so far.
In the last week of December people came to look at the house, wanting to see my rooms as well. Ok. Cleaning and making everything presentable.
A couple of days later I was told someone would buy the house and wanted a written statement that I would move out by May 31st. I said no, I move out on April 30th, I told you about that...
The next day the woman who is buying the house shows up with more people to show my rooms to and offers me that I can stay the extra month, but pay 50% more rent.
I was pretty crushed with both work (I was on duty from the 25th to the 31st) and that news and just went home, not agreeing to or signing anything...
Then I found out that the whole way this business was handled was pretty illegal, and I can basicly stay as long as I want. If the buyer does buy the house he/she buys the tenants... for the next 5 years, and can increase rent only by 20%max.
I pointed that out to both seller and buyer. Not amused.
So now the new owner is renovating downstairs, changing the gas supplier... needs to put in new gaslines and a burner and things... and I am still without heating and hot water.
Such a coincidence...
We’ll see what happens tomorrow...
